Self-Gaze

Xilichen Hua 2026

Self-Gaze is a moving image work that takes women and nature as its core, exploring bodily autonomy and self-awareness. From an ecofeminist perspective, it examines how women establish modes of coexistence, responsiveness, and governance within the environment.

The work centre around a female body with forests, bodies of water, and different surreal landscapes, constructing a field between reality and imagination. through the interweaving of digital bodies, biomimetic materials, and light-sensitive spaces. The body re-establishes its relationship with the environment through acts of touching, walking, and pausing. The image reveals how the body gradually loosens existing orders through nature’s embrace and feedback, generating a renewed understanding of self-boundaries, modes of perception, and subjectivity.
