Unheard Body
Xilichen Hua, 2025
In Unheard Body, I explore the silent narratives inscribed onto the female body within systems of social discipline and cultural gaze. My work begins from personal experience but also reflects on broader conditions in which the body is both lived and observed, shaped by desire, symbols, and external control. For me, the female body is always fragile and resilient, vulnerable and resistant, silenced and carrying its own force.
I question how the body is constantly watched and regulated but rarely allowed to speak for itself. I am interested in how identity and subjectivity are formed under such pressures, and how they may be disrupted or reclaimed. What matters to me is not only to show the body as an object of gaze, but also as a space where inner strength, memory, and agency persist.
